Dissecting Fiction Essay In â€Å"Where are you going, where have you been†, this story makes me disappointed with the principle character Connie. She falls off to me as a youthful young lady who needs to carry on with the life of a develop lady, yet when confronted with reality she is still only a young lady. I felt Connie wants to radical or act an alternate individual when she goes out and one might say carries on with a twofold life and has two characters. In the story the writer composes, â€Å"She wore a draw over pullover shirt that looked one way when she was at home and another way when she was from home† (Oates 325). This was a case of how Connie carried on with this twofold life. Connie made herself truly defenseless when she goes out with Eddie and uncovered herself as a â€Å"woman† when she isn't. What I feel is critical about this bit of writing is the story that is being told and the truth behind it. Numerous little youngsters face this sort of reality ordinary and don’t have a decent result. The authors’ expectation in the story was to depict a young lady named Connie and give her battle with youthfulness and needing to turn into a lady excessively quick. The subjects that stand apart to me in this story are Connie’s steady fantasizing and staring off into space. She is constantly stressed over her appearance and fantasizing about young men, however when it comes down to the truth of really captivating and being stood up to with a man, she returns to being a youngster once more. Another topic that stands apart to me is Connie leaving herself very helpless. She has her friends’ father drop them off at a strip mall, yet sneaks off to a drive in to meet young men. At that point she meets with Eddie and hangs out in a back street. This opens her to Arnold Friend. She depicts herself with a great deal of autonomy, however when she has the showdown with him at her home, she attempts to drive him off with saying, â€Å"But my father’s returning. He’s coming to get me† (Oates 330). She says this since she is still a young lady and doesn’t very expertise to deal with this circumstance. The truth of this sort of story is the thing that makes this bit of writing significant. The creator composed a tale about a little youngster needing to grow up excessively quick and places herself in circumstances that depicts her autonomy, yet then uncovered her weakness. As a peruser, I felt this story is a reality for some little youngsters. I think the authors’ objective here was to permit the peruser to perceive what numerous little youngsters face and that it is so natural to be controlled by a man who has forceful qualities. It was unpleasant for this man to have a deep understanding of Connie when they were rarely officially presented, yet Connie’s appearance persuaded she was available to her sexuality than what she truly was or could deal with.
